Monthly favorites: August 2012

Hey, pals! Hope you all had awesome August!

As this kind of posts became so popular, I decided to do it myself, focusing not only on clothing and beauty items, but telling you also about music, books, blogs and so on. I think, it’s a great way to know more about me. Hope you’ll enjoy it!

Well, to begin with, I have to say that during all August I’ve been feeling like some dude in hell or heaven have decided to mess my life completely. First half of the month I’d been recovering after a painful heart break, I’ve been extremely busy with my local jewelry shop and at the same time I had been babysitting my 8-years-old niece and spend a lot of hours, watching The Simpsons and playing computer games, yelling ‘DIE, bastards’. Pretty. But finally I managed to fix myself a bit and the second part of the month was quite interesting: I finally started my blog and I also have been involved into a couple of exciting projects as a PR-girl. I’ll tell you all about them later.

WARNING: This post is really loooooong.

As it is still a style-themed blog, I’ll start with my clothing faves. First half of the month was burning hot, so I’d been wearing these two dresses a lot. First is this awesome ‘color explosion’ Zara dress from this summer collection, which, I think, is the most bright one in my wardrobe. As the opposite, there is a plain maxi dress (again from Zara, yup, I have an obsession). It was from last summer collection and I am still wearing it non-stop. I think, every girl needs something like this ‘cause it can be dressed up, dressed down and suits everybody. You can also see it in my very first outfit post here.
I was into gold jewelry recently, so I’ve been wearing these babies a lot: earrings and a ring are from Sigal (I got them from other russian online shop jerusalembazar.ru about a year ago, but they often have a very similar ones in stock). Malachite and a blue coral bracelets were from my russian online shop Rosa Banana, and a gold bracelet was from H&M a year ago.

From my shop I picked out these two rings as well - turquoise and malachite ones - and these unusual leather earrings with astrofillite, which is a very rare mineral.

Speaking about earrings, I’ve also been loving these awesome huge hoops from a random little shop in Spain.  They go down to my shoulders and remaind me of Frida Kahlo, who is my biggest style crush and one of my favourite painters.

I love bright lipsticks. I think, lipsticks in general are my most beloved makeup items. So let me introduce you to this beauty, Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Monte Carlo, which is a sophisticated choice from every side. First, it is a gorgeous shade between red and pink, second, the packaging is incredibly chic (as you probably know, I work in ad so this aspect is quite important for me), third, it even smells...expensive and very feminine. I also have to say that Monte Carlo is very sheer, so it looks quite natural on my lips.

I don’t have a proper swatch for you (sorry), so I just took this pic for you 2 minutes back:

My fave skincare item this month has been Enzymion face cream from LUSH. In summer my combination skin tends to be very oily and this cream is perfect for this case. It’s a very watery cream, which absorbs into my skin very quickly and makes it soft and pretty matte. It is also great as a base under my makeup. By the way, if you don't know, LUSH products are all 100% natural and contain a lot of herbals and fruit extracts.

My favourite perfume this month has been L’eau de Chloe. Ladies, to be honest, I’m very bad in describing scents, so I’ll just tell, it’s a very light floral perfume, feminine (not girly, actually) and perfect for summer. I can feel rose and patchouli notes in it with some citrus alongside.

As for nailpolishes, I’ve been wearing these guys: Super bossa nova by Essie (bright fuschia polish with a blue microshimmer in it),  the most elegant one in my collection, Eternal Optimist by Essie (a very soft caramel shade, which sometimes looks rosy pink)Orange Fizz by Chanel (a perfect coral shade for summer) and Cashmere Cardigan by Orly, my recent obsession, perfect periwinkle shade. You can see them all on my nails in my previous outfit posts.
Well, now it’s finally time to tell you about my random or ‘cultural’ favourites! I don’t have a favorite movie this month, but I have some interesting songs in my playlist and a book. The book I’d re-read and enjoyed is ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’, a novel by Harper Lee published in 1960. It’s a very famous one and I’m sure a lot of you have already read it, but if you didn’t...I will lead you a little bit into the story. The main characters, kids Scout and Jem Finch, spends their days playing and desperately trying to make their mysterios mad neighbour, Boo Radley, came out to play with them. But this book is not only about that. The book also follows another story line, where their Dad, Atticus Finch, a lawyer, is desperately trying to fight with horrible racial injustice. Overall, it’s a great delightfully written book, which draws you a picture of an old Southern life, an innocent childhood and big social problems. It’s a pretty amusing reading but it makes you think and it has a lot of unexpected twists and turns and just everything you want to find in a book.
As for my music choise, this month I’ve been listening a lot to these two songs below:

I also have a few favorite YouTube channels and a blog to share with you. I’ll start with YT, ‘cause I’m now more into video blogs. My first favorite channel this month has been clothesencounters by charming asian girl Jenn. Her style is pretty edgy and quite different from mine, but God, I swear this girl can rock everything! She looks divine both in fancy dresses and old thrifted anoraks. She also makes some interesting vlogs about concerts, talented people and so on.

Through Jenn’s channel this month I’ve accidentally discovered this stunning girl, Natalie from nicelydamaged. Let me tell you first, I’m a fan of Skins series (the UK versuon, all seasons). I loved Liv from the last season, and Natalie remains me of her so much. This girl is incredible: she’s pretty, but rocks men’s clothing like no other, she’s artistic, her voice is very pleasant to hear, she had a very stylish apartment and as for her music taste..oh man, it’s divine.

I also have accidentally discovered an amazing blog Classy girls wear pearls. Nice name, isn’t it? The style of Sarah is way more than nice. She is really classy. Really. She looks like Kate Middleton and dress like Blair Waldorf (who, by the way, I adore). Perfect combination! As Blair did a long time ago, this young lady made me wear sophisticated dresses more.
If you won’t check these beauties out, you’re fool! By the way, left a comment if you want me to do something like ‘Favorite YouTube channels and blogs’. Would you be interested?

Last but not least (yeah guys we almost finished!), my favorite cookies. I'm an ex-foodie, now into working out and healthy food, so I don't eat a lot of sweets and carbs, but these crisp apple babies are amazing and worth every exercise after. I have a word for them - cozy. Yes, they are cozy little things and they feel like home-made.

That’s it, guys! WE MADE IT! Feel free to ask me something in the comments and tell me what was the last interesting book you’ve read! Don’t forget to subscribe or follow!

Have a great life! x, your Banana
